Aircraft DH 9 serial D7231 was shot up by enemy fighters and seen in flames near Bethencourt Bridge on 8/8/18. The Pilot Lt G.S. Ramsay and Observer 2/Lt W.M. Hartley were killed.

A report sent in by Walter's great-niece records that as they were returning from their bombing raid they flew over a German airfield near Peronne.
The German fighters immediately took off and gave chase shooting down Walter's aircraft.......probably shot down by the Red Baron's brother.
