8 December, 1941;

The squadron suffered its sixth flying accident casualty within a month, when Sgt Thomas Hardisty was reported 'killed on active service'.
On Monday 8 December, Sgt Hardisty was the wireless operator on Hampden AE227, taking part in a practice flight around the local area of Scampton. For some unexplained reason, Sgt Hardisty fell to his death from the aircraft. The Welton Police reported, an airman subsequently identified as Sgt T.H. Hardisty was killed after baling out over Sudbrooke. There is no further information as to the cause of this tragedy; 21 years old Thomas Hardisty is buried in St. John the Baptist Churchyard, Scampton.
