Edgar Llewellyn Crowe (formerly a Second LIeutenant of the 3rd East Kent Regiment....The  Buffs) was awarded his "Aviator's Certificate" (No: 1352) on June 26th 1915.

In January 1917 he was a flying instructor with 49Sqn at Swingate Down, Dover.

In July 1917 he transferred to 51 Training Squadron (renamed as such in May 1917) who were based at Filton.

There are records to show that he was hit by propeller (Be2a serial A8677) while turning the machine into wind in a field near Navenby, Lincoln.

The field in question is most likely to be Wellingore Heath which belonged to the RNAS.

This was not an operational aerodrome but there were a number of forced landings there.

Puzzingly, Lt Crowe is recorded as O.K but 2nd Lt G.G. Crutchley injured.
