When the Lancaster crashed in the early hours of that fateful morning these are some of the village people who later gave the crew their burial.

The village was occupied by Germans at the time and they told the villagers to bury the entire crew in one grave.
Under the noses of the Germans the villagers managed to move them one by one until they all had separate places of rest .
Since that time they have looked after this cemetery and every year since 1945 they have held a service specially for these men.
