25/26 June, 1941; KIEL:

On a night of fine weather and local ground haze, 30 Hampdens and 17 Wellingtons caused light damage to Kiel.
Whilst in their post operational interrogation back at Scampton, Sgt pilot Green and crew reported seeing an aircraft being shot down and exploding in mid-air. Just one Hampden failed to return from the raid; that Hampden was (AD788) piloted by Sgt Hind of 49 Squadron.

Sgt Hind managed to bale out and was made a PoW. He was most distressed that his fellow crew members had not survived; all three are buried in the Kiel War Cemetery.
