Flew at least 30 operations with 49Sqn.
Hugh writes:
"I was one of 12 pilots recruited for trials on 'Village Inn' (so called secret at this stage). Our training was fairly basic, starting at Fiskerton before we went to Fulbeck. It wasn't very successful and was confusing to operate. I believe only three Squadrons including 49 were initially selected to road test it. My interrogations from Air Board boffins were interesting. From memory we lost half of the volunteers.

"We called him 'Uncle' even at that stage. While I never did an Op with him we were very good friends and he took me up in the Station's Oxford a couple of times and let me fly it. I really appreciated it."
