4th October, 1939:

At 11.15hrs, one of 49 Squadron's Avro Ansons crashed on fire in the grounds of a Mental Hospital at Radcliffe, killing the pilot, P/O Brian Harker and the W/Op AC2 McGurk. The aircraft had been carrying out W/T practice at the time. Both crew members are buried in Newport Cemetery, Lincoln.
