A combat report from the 25th February 1944.

From left to right, "Taffy" Jennings, F Knowles, Dawn, "Geordie" Goodwin, Tudor, "Tubby" Eyles, Johnny Holmes and Adam Harbottle. My parents got married in the middle of Tudor's operational tour on 4 March 1944.

This photo was taken in front of the 'Gate Guardian' at RAF Scampton (now 'Just Jane' at East Kirkby)
From right to left - Dick Knowles, unknown RAF officer, Johnny Holmes, Tudor and Trevor Jennings; they had lost contact with the remaining crew members.
Trevor is holding a small knitted doll, the crew mascot, that went on every mission with them.
Johnny Holmes recalls, "I used to attend Salvationist meetings in Newark and this lady made us a doll to use as a mascot when we flew.
We got so superstitious about it we would not fly unless it was on board and one night ordered a search of the airfield to look for the missing doll before we could take off".
This was in the squadron book that is part of the collection in the main hangar at East Kirkby.....click the image for a larger view, in a new window.
