In January 1944, W/O Webb and crew were screened after a tour which had seen them go through the 'Battle of the Ruhr' and several Berlin raids.

A very relieved crew were posted out as instructors.

Sadly Sgt Hayes was killed on 25th February 1945 flying with 1660 HCU.

He is buried in the Dinnington Church Cemetery.
