16/17 February, 1942; MINELAYING/LEAFLETS:

No 5 Group dispatched 37 Hampdens and 12 Manchesters to plant mines off the Frisians. The 14 aircraft dispatched by 49 Squadron carried out their duties with mixed success.
From the minelaying force, 1 Hampden and 1 Manchester failed to return; the Hampden was C-Charlie from 49 Squadron. It is presumed that F/O Gordon Jenkins (AT124) and crew came down in the North Sea.
The bodies of this unfortunate crew have never been recovered.
