Flew six operations with 49Sqn in August 1940 and was awarded the DFM.
Sgt J E G Allwood was killed on the 26th September 1942 whilst flying with 160Sqn.
At this time, 160Sqn were based at RAF Aqir in Palestine (today it is one of the largest IAF bases called Tel Nof) and were flying the Consolidated Liberator Mk2. On the night of his death, Sgt Allwood's aircraft took off from RAF Shallufa in Egypt.
He is buried in the Ramleh War Cemetery in Israel.
