23 November, 1939:

At noon, on a very foggy winter’s day, S/Ldr McGregor-Watt was practicing a new blind approach system at Waddington. Visibility was down to 50 yards as Hampden L4034 made a normal approach at very low level. The aircraft flew across the aerodrome without shutting off its engines, when suddenly it struck a hangar at the far side of the landing ground. Three members of the crew; AC1 S. Taylor, AC1 F.D. Talbot and AC2 W.O. Kelly were killed instantly. The remainder of the crew; S/Ldr P. McGregor-Watt, Cpl T.A. Keating and AC1 D. McGarvie all died within a few hours.
