27/28 January, 1944; BERLIN:

Extensive diversionary operations by Stirlings and Wellingtons preceded yet another attack on the 'Big City'. Fiskerton put 13 aircraft up but two were soon forced to return.
Unfortunately one Lancaster from 49 Squadron was reported missing; it was Australian P/O Keith Barnes DFC and crew on their 23rd operation. This loss stunned many at Fiskerton, who thought the Barnes crew looked good to complete their tour. Four crew members survived, the other three, including their 20 year old pilot are buried in the Berlin War Cemetery.
