Additional details courtesy of Paul Bennett (grandson of Austin Long):

He was a Flight Lieutenant by the end of the war but may well have been a Pilot Officer in 1943. I can confirm that he was a navigator. I have one of his logbooks which would suggest that he was with 207 squadron until the end of May 1943 and then joined 49 squadron sometime in June. He seems to have flown with a pilot called Coxhill in LM 337.
Unfortunately this logbook finishes in August 1943.

(Association Note: LM337 was lost on the 16th August 1943)

Grandad survived the war, was mentioned in dispatches in January 1945 and worked for the MOD for most of the remainder of his working life.

He passed away in Suffolk in 1991.
