Personnel Index - Detail
Sgt Jones flew 7 operations in the last few weeks of the war.
(This record is also listed as 'Post-War' as it happened after the end of WW2)
On the 20th September 1945 Sgt Jones was involved in a road traffic accident and killed. According to burial records, the accident occurred in Derbyshire.
Anne Cameron of The Local and Family History Centre in Blackpool kindly checked editions of the Blackpool Gazette around the time of death but could find no mention of the accident.
The Association is grateful for her assistance.
With thanks to Craig Fleming of the Blackpool Gazette.
Success!
Via Marilyn Fisher we have received an image of Sgt Jack Jones.
Unfortunately, those who knew Jack are now very elderly and are unable to add any additional details of Jack's life. Marilyn confirms that he was killed in a motorbike accident in Derbyshire. He was the pillion passenger and came off and hit his head on the curb. They believe he was returning to camp following leave.
This is the crew that Sgt Jones flew with for his seven operations.
