Some thoughts from Murray Clegg

It is with great joy that I can tell you that I have located a photo of Clem for you for the web site. We turned mum's house upside down to find it as she was sure that she had a photo. I never knew him at all and mum was only young at the time.

However to have read so many books and reports of aircrew it is very difficult not to get emotional when a face is put to a name. For Clem to only last a week on 'ops' clearly illustrates the huge cost of war. He left a wife and child behind like thousands of others, who will never know their parent/s.

It will be comforting to know that his photo will be added to 49 Squadron's 49Sqn Association. It is never too late for these men to be remembered. Over here on April 25 is A.N.Z.A.C. day, or in other countries a Memorial Day.

It is held every year beginning with the dawn service and a parade in every city of Australia for the servicemen and women, past and present, alive and dead. It is not to celebrate war, but to thank the survivors for the freedom they paid for so long ago.

This year I will have a special moment for Clem, and all the other Australians that died in the skies over countries so far away from home.
